Exciting Presentation Design Trends for 2021

SlideRabbit is so excited to welcome in 2021 along with some change and renewal. Each new year brings us a chance to sit and reflect on where we are and where we’re going. That’s a loaded question this year, but for our purposes, we’ll limit the exploration to design trends.

Beyond “representation & inclusion” to “authenticity”

The images used in presentation (and across other elements of branded design, like advertising) have been morphing over the last few years. Gone are the boardrooms of stodgy white men in suits; replaced by meeting rooms with more women and people of color. Advertisers are increasingly using progressive family types in commercials.

2020 had the unique effect of humanizing all of us. The veil of professionalism has come down as many are taking video calls while parenting and skipping the business casual in favor of something more comfortable.

As we all become more comfortable being human at work, the representation of people in design can continue to diversify.

Nature’s influence

After a year inside, we’re seeing design elements pulled from nature creep into packaging design. Packaging design trends are frequently precursors to presentation design trends, as those new products drive changes in brand expression.

Duotone color blending

After a year of extremes, perhaps it’s no surprise that duotone is making a re-emergence. A mix of two main colors brings a stark and abstract feeling to design and expresses not only vibrancy and emotion, but also marries diametric ideas.

Take Pantone’s 2021 Colors of the Year, for instance:

The union of an enduring Ultimate Gray with the vibrant yellow Illuminating expresses a message of positiveity supported by fortitude.
